Located in southern Colorado, about 25 miles East of Alamosa, Fort Garland, with its force of 100 men, served to protect the early settlers of the San Luis Valley.

Established in 1858, Garland was once commanded by the legendary Kit Carson. Rich in military history, Fort Garland also highlights the folk art and culture of the Hispanic community in southern Colorado.
